Instituted to encourage excellence and innovation in the field of gems and jewellery, the India Gem and Jewellery Awards (IGJA) is a premier accolade gala, which encourages companies to be the best in their business on all fronts. The 44th edition held on July 28th, 2018 in Mumbai honoured some of the industry’s outstanding companies and individuals for their performance and efforts to take the industry on the path of success. FLOROSCENT reached out to a select few winners to know their views on the award and what does winning this award mean to their organisation. Read on to know who won at the IGJA 2017.

IGJA 2017: Awards

The 44th edition of India Gem & Jewellery Awards (IGJA) 2017, hosted by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at Mukesh Patel Auditorium, Mumbai, saw an impressive turn out of the crème da le crème of the gleaming industry of gems and jewellery along with prominent names from the social and political circle.

The winners received their trophies at the hands of chief guest Suresh Prabhu, Minster of Commerce & Industry & Civil Aviation. Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included presiding guest Poonam Mahajan, Member of Parliament; Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, GJEPC; Colin Shah, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Kirit Bhansali, Convener Awards and Sabyasachi Ray, ED, GJEPC. The event was hosted by Cyrus Broacha.

The IGJA 2017 comprised of 44 awards that recognised the achievements of individuals and companies whose work, raises the visibility and status of the Indian GJ industry. The jury members, who discussed, deliberated and eventually selected the winners included: Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director, India & Middle East, GIA; Aravamudan Krishna Kumar, Former MD, SBI and Jayashree Ramaswamy, CFO and Company Secretary, Dun & Bradstreet India.

Lifetime Achievement Award
This year, Kanubhai B Shah, Founder of the KBS Group, was awarded with the lifetime achievement award. He founded KBS Group four decades ago with very little knowledge of diamonds or jewellery. But with his enterprising spirit, enthusiasm and determination, the company has established a reputation for its jewellery in global markets and also has international presence.

He has been an active member of GJEPC and has not only served on several committees, but has also served as its Vice-Chairman. Today, he devote much of his time in working for the society through his role as a trustee on several philanthropic organisations.

Kiran Gems bags multiple awards
Kiran Gems, the world’s largest manufacturer of diamonds, has been recognised for its outstanding performance in four coveted categories of the IGJ Awards.  The year 2018 marked Kiran Gems’ tenth consecutive win for ranking first in the category of Cut & Polished Diamonds – Highest Turnover at this prestigious event.

We are honoured to receive the First Rank in Cut & Polished Diamonds – Highest Turnover for ten consecutive years, said Kiran Gems’ Director, Dinesh Lakhani. “It’s our commitment towards our customers that as we grow, with us they will also grow manifolds. IGJA 2017: Kiran Gems

The 44th India Gem & Jewellery Awards 2017 won by Kiran Gems are: Ranking First in Cut & Polished Diamonds – Highest Turnover; Ranking First as the Highest Taxpayer Company; Ranking First in Best Digital Initiative and Winner of Most Socially Responsible Company.

Emerald receives two prominent awards
Coimbatore-based Emerald Jewel Industry India Ltd. won two awards at the function including Precious Metal Jewellery – Plain (Medium) and Highest Employment on Rolls of Company. This is the second time that Emerald is winning the Highest Employer Award from the GJEPC.

Launched in 1984, Emerald combines the best of technology with talented teams of designers and skilled artisans. At present, the company has nearly 5,000 employees on its rolls. Pleased to receive this honour for his company, K. Srinivasan, Managing Director, Emerald Jewel Industry India Ltd., stated that the hard work and efforts made by team Emerald is behind this achievement. “It is always a satisfaction for Emerald to give employment to a large pool of people and take the creativity of India’s talented workforce to the world. Moreover, in the gold jewellery segment, we are doing maximum exports. The winning streak continues for RMC Gems
Jaipur-based RMC Gems India Ltd. won the award for Cut & Polished Coloured Gemstones. Earlier, RMC has received award for Highest Exports of Cuts & Polished Gemstones from 2010-11 to 2015-16 at IGJA.

RMC is one of the largest manufacturers of coloured gemstones in India and has emerged as a premier brand, globally. Excited about receiving the award, Nirmal Bardiya, Managing Director, RMC Gems India Ltd., said that “We have received the first place in the Cut and Polished Coloured Gemstone category. Known for its credibility, high-rated selection procedures and efficient jury, IGJA is the most important platform that recognises and encourages excellence and creativity in the gem and jewellery industry. 15 consecutive win for Hari Krishna Exports
Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. bagged an award for the Highest Turnover in Cut and Polished Diamonds (Second). The company has been winning awards at the GJEPC from 15 consecutive years. The award was received by the next generation of the family in business, Hitarth Dholakia and Dravya Dholakia.

Terming it as a reflection of the organisation’s commitment towards the objective of leading in the industry with excellence and determination, Ghanshyam Dholakia, Managing Director, Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Laxmi Jewellery Export recognised for its efforts
Ahmedabad-based Laxmi Jewellery received the award under the categories: Precious Metal Jewellery – Plain & Studded (SME) and Best Growing Company of Year – Precious Metal Jewellery – Plain & Studded. This is the fifth award from the GJEPC.

Started in 1978, Laxmi Jewellery is widely-known for its vast range of jewellery, manufacturing excellence and technical finesse. Speaking with Floroscent, Vipul Mehta, Director, Laxmi Jewellery Exports Pvt. Ltd., said, “IGJA is the top-rated award in the Indian gem and jewellery industry. Getting recognised here is always an important milestone for Laxmi Jewellery. This year, we have won awards in two categories. Our sustained efforts on the exports front and creation of world class designs helped us in getting this important feat,” he revealed.

Selecting the best amongst the best
The prestigious award has been a part of the industry’s social calendar since the last 44 years. Over the years, it has emerged as a truly 360 degree scheme, covering the multiple facets of the GJ industry and selecting its leaders based on modern, contemporary standards and excellence.

Other prominent industry players who recognised for their outstanding achievements are: Laxmi Diamond Pvt. Ltd. The company was conferred with three awards at the ceremony under Best Growing Company of the Year – Cut & Polished Diamonds (First place); Cut & Polished diamond (Highest Turnover) (third place) and Most Socially Responsible Company (Second place).

Renowned retailer, PC Jewellers Ltd. won the award for Precious Metal Jewellery – Plain (Large). The company has won numerous awards on the business as well as design front from the GJEPC in the past.

The year’s Clearing Agent of the Year award was conferred to BV Chinai & Co (India) Pvt. Ltd. Founded by Udai Chinai, BVC is a rapidly growing service provider, offering Customs Clearance and Freight Forwarding services, predominantly to the GJ industry.

State Bank of India won four awards in the Best Banks Financing the Industry category. Rosily Paul Vadakkel (M/s Rosily Paul Creations) and Deeta Jay Thakural (M/s Deeta Jay Thakural) were announced as joint winners for the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award.
